Shine On Mt Roskill Store - Leilani Forsyth
Hello Everyone,
My name is Leilani."Back in the day" 🤣 I would take great pleasure in changing outfits at least five times a day. Being Polynesian/Caucasian mixed and a painfully shy kid, it was the best way to communicate how I was feeling. That's how a passion for clothes began in me, and the understanding that fashion has the ability to cross culture and expression across the globe. I didn't grow up being surrounded by women who believed in or projected body positivity, and so in turn I did not believe this for myself. This is a trait that I am determined to grow out of!!
I LOVE all things creative and somewhere in the back of my cupboard is an Arts degree - and I love changing spaces and helping people to gain confidence in themselves. I have never worked in fashion retail before, but I feel so grateful to be a part of the Shine On Mt Roskill crew. This is because I believe that whilst we might be in the business of selling clothes, we are also in the business of helping and encouraging women to feel comfortable and to be confident in their own bodies. Â
Within a very short time of working here I am doing things that would have previously been completely out of my comfort zone, like letting the team take photos of me and posting them online! Whilst it might be normal for a lot of the team here, it was " totally freaking scary" for myself.
With all that life throws at us ladies, I have grown to understand that there is nothing as strong as the inner critic and the negative self talk. My goal in working at Shine On and when I meet with you is to help you dispel that voice, and to help you find the brave and beautiful you - just as I am learning to find it in myself too!
Can't wait to meet you in store soon!Â
X Leilani
